Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) will run from the 17 November 2014 to the 21 November 2014. There are a series of events planned across the country, and there are way too many to include all in our post. Literally, there are over 90 events packed into one week. Click here for the full programme.
Each of these events, does a little something to help grow our economy (which it must be said is one of the most unequal in the world). Starting and running a business requires many attributes, especially resilience, and events such as GEW provide encouragement to start and continue. A couple of events worth considering are listed below.

Market at the Grove 

Why I like this : Markets help to support entrepreneurs. 
The Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship has an exceptional week planned of talks and workshops under the theme, “Passions to Profit”. The highlight for me, is the market on Friday, 21 November 2014. It will take place at The Grove, an open-air square at 18 Melle Street in the centre of Braamfontein, from 10am to 4pm on Friday, 21 November. Members of the public are welcome to attend. The market is a good opportunity to get a head start on some holiday shopping, while supporting small businesses that have a unique offering,” says Gavin Meiring, the Branson Centre’s Marketing Manager. “Goods are locally made and people can look forward to a fun shopping experience.”  To contact the Branson Centre for Entrepreneurship, click this link.
 

Book Launch – Resilience: Portraits of a new South Africa.

Why I like this : It would be wonderful to see a reality I understand in these portraits. 
Depicting entrepreneurs in South Africa in a visual form is incredibly difficult – is the entrepreneur the guy in the suit starting a new product in an established company with a mega marketing budget, or is the geek girl building a MXIT solution to improve schooling asking you to like her page, and share the app? We would all agree that both are engaging in entrepreneurial activities, but the experiences are so different. For this reason, this release of the art exhibition called RESILIENCE: PORTRAITS OF A NEW SOUTH AFRICA, looks extremely interesting. They will hold events in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Entry is R 125-00, and the book will be available for purchase.  The authors and artists describe the book thus:

Festival of entrepreneurship: Maboneng precinct

Why I like this : Johannesburg, looks to be doing things more and more frequently. 
The Maboneng Precinct will play host to the “festival of entrepreneurship”.  There is a frenzy of activities, and a night market (yes, people do go out at night in Johannesburg). The full details of the programme are available via the link below. The website can be accessed by clicking here.

Everywhere …

Why I like this : Because entrepreneurs do not only live in Johannesburg and Cape Town. 
The most exciting part of the GEW 2015 is that it is occurring across the country, and there is something literally for everyone in most places.
 

On a personal note, I am hoping to get to some of the events, but launching Proposal Desk is the priority.
